Azerbaijan increases gas supplies to Turkey by over 18%

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31

Azerbaijan’s gas exports to Turkey rose by more than 18 percent in January 2021, as compared to the same period in 2020, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Markets Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

Russia accounted for lion’s share of Turkey’s gas imports in January with 2.675 billion cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 1.119 billion cubic meters and Iran with 714 million cubic meters.

Gas exports from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran to Turkey increased by 21.04 percent, 18.41 percent and 1.40 percent, respectively year-on-year.

In total, Turkey’s natural gas imports stood at 6.093 billion cubic meters in January 2021, or 1,76 percent more as compared to January 2020.

Around 4.508 billion cubic meters were imported via pipelines, while 1.585 billion cubic meters accounted for liquified natural gas (LNG).

Turkey’s gas imports via pipelines rose by 16.82 percent, while LNG imports fell by 25.54 percent.
