By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The volume of gas pumped into the Shourijeh D and Sarajeh gas storage facilities increased by 24 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), said Ahmad Rajabiç the technical affairs director of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), Trend reports citing the ICOFC’s website.

According to him, a total of about 2.87 billion cubic meters of gas were pumped into these gas storage facilities last year.

Rajabi added that moreover, about 3 billion cubic meters of gas were taken from these two gas storage facilities last Iranian year. This is an increase of 15 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year.

One of the main concerns in Tehran during winter is the pressure drop in gas transfer lines which leads to shortage in gas supply to the northern part of the city located in higher altitude. To deal with this problem, National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) decided to store gas in nearby natural reservoirs during hot season and produce it during cold season.

Shourijeh D (Razavi Khorasan Province, northeastern Iran) and Sarajeh (Qom Province, northern Iran) are the two underground gas storage (UGS) facilities, which are being used in Iran.

Rajabi emphasized that it is planned to repair 3 wells, and drill 2 new wells at these locations, to increase the volume of stored gas up to 3 million cubic meters daily.
