Electricity generation capacity of Iran's western provinces grows

The electricity generation capacity of the western Iranian provinces of Kermanshah, Kurdistan and Ilam has increased by 67 percent during the current Iranian government (which has been in power since 2013), said the CEO of Iran’s western region electricity company, Ali Asadi, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

Asadi noted that the electricity generation potential of these three provinces of Iran was 2,370 megawatt-hours eight years ago. This figure rose to 3,970 megawatt-hours by the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2021).

The CEO added that when the current Iranian government came to power in Iran (August 2013), the electricity generation capacity in Iran's Kermanshah Province was 1,290 megawatt-hours. This figure reached 2,230 megawatt-hours by the end of last Iranian year. In other words, the electricity generation capacity in Kermanshah Province has increased by 72 percent.

"In 2013, the electricity generation capacity in the Kurdistan Province was 970 megawatt-hours. This figure reached 1,770 megawatt-hours by the end of last Iranian year, and the province's electricity generation capacity increased by 11 percent," he said.

According to Asadi, while in the Ilam Province, the electricity generation capacity was 106 megawatt-hours in 2013. This figure increased to 660 megawatt-hours by the end of last Iranian year. This shows there was 523-percent increase in Ilam Province.
