The exports of Iran's petrochemical products have already replaced crude oil exports, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, Trend reports citing the IRINN.
He made the remark in an event dedicated to the launch of petrochemical facilities in Iran today on May 20, 2021.
According to Rouhani, the exports of petrochemicals account for 34 percent of Iran's total exports, at present.
He added that without Iran's petrochemical sector, Iran's economy could face serious problems.
The president emphasized that given a number of problems (sanctions, coronavirus, so on), the launch of $1.3 billion worth of petrochemical facilities in Iran today is of great importance.
As reported, three petrochemical facilities worth $1.3 billion were put into operation in Iran on May 20, and as result, 2,450 people were employed. With the launch of these facilities, Iran's petrochemicals production potential has increased by 3.5 million tons.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh and other officials attended the event dedicated to the launch of petrochemical facilities online format.
The production of the petrochemical industry in Iran reportedly will be minimum of 130 million tons per year until March 20, 2026.
Iran exported 47.6 million tons of petrochemical products worth $13.8 billion over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
