The electricity generation of thermal power plants in Iran has increased by 14 percent from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) to July 13, compared to the same period last Iranian year, an official of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company Esmaeil Namazi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
According to the report, the TPPs in Iran generated more than 106 million megawatt-hours of electricity within the mentioned period. While during the same period last Iranian year, this figure amounted to about 93 million megawatt-hours.
“The failure of hydropower plants due to the drought, faster warming of the air and the increase in electricity consumption, the failure of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant for a time are the main reasons for the increase in electricity generation in thermal power plants,” the report said.
There are currently 570 units of thermal power plants in Iran. About 68 percent of Iran's thermal power plants are owned by the private sector and the rest by the public sector.
The electricity generation potential of these thermal power plants is 68,000 megawatt-hours.
