The capacities available in Turkmenistan make it possible to significantly increase the supply of electricity to the Central Asian states, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Trend reports with reference to Golden Age electronic newspaper.
The minister said that speaking at a briefing on the results of the third The Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia, held in the Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone on August 6, 2021.
The minister noted that the Turkmen side has declared its readiness to significantly increase the volume of natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to the Central Asian countries, or through their territories to foreign markets, on mutually beneficial terms.
He also noted that in order to realize the natural resource potential of the Central Asian region and the advantages of its geographical location, it is necessary to create a powerful energy infrastructure-both inside the region and outside it.
Ashgabat is studying the prospects of electricity supplies to the markets of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia. The total volume of electricity produced in Turkmenistan is planned to reach 33 billion kilowatt-hours by 2024, which exceeds the current figures by almost 30 percent.
