By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Spain's largest oil and gas company, Repsol, produced for the first time biofuel for aviation from industrial waste at its Petronor refinery in Bilbao, Trend reports citing the company.

According to the company, the first batch of biofuel produced in the amount of 5,300 tons will avoid the emission of 300 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

“The company has already adapted the third oil refinery in Spain for the production of biofuels. The first batches have already been received at the factories in Puertollano and Tarragona. Biofuels were produced using biomass as raw material. The use of industrial waste as a feedstock enables circular economy tools to be integrated into the biofuel production process. As a result, industrial waste is converted into a high value-added product - low-carbon fuel,” the company said.

As the company noted, the promotion of this type of ecological fuel is not the only project of the company to achieve the goal of zero harmful emissions by 2050.

"Repsol has already launched programs to achieve energy efficiency, collect and store carbon dioxide, produce synthetic fuels and hydrogen from renewable energy sources, and generate electricity with a minimum amount of harmful emissions," the statement said.

Since the beginning of 2021, the company's market capitalization has increased by 18.3 percent, to 14.5 billion euros.
