SOCAR’s STAR Refinery boosts crude imports

The STAR oil refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey imported 858,080 tons of crude oil in June 2021 as compared to 755,388 tons in the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

The refinery’s wholesale volume stood at 673,574 tons in June 2021, versus 414,640 tons in the same period in 2020.

The EPDK report shows that STAR refinery produced 553,850 tons of gasoline, 7,270 tons of high sulfur fuel oil, 14,576 tons of jet fuel, 404,482 tons of other intermediates, 108,233 tons of other products, 15,450 tons of LPG, 119.094 tons of naphtha, 64,699 tons of petroleum coke, 25,260 tons of refinery gas.

Star Refinery, with investment value of $6.3 billion came on stream in October 2018. Around $3.3 billion of the project’s cost was covered by loans. The total investment in Star Refinery is expected to stand at $7 billion.

The annual processing capacity of Star Refinery is 10 million tons. It meets around 25 percent of Turkey’s refined oil products. The refinery is able to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
