By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Countries of the Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), China and non-OECD Asia account for major part of carbon dioxide emissions (e from fossil fuel combustion only) by 2040, Trend reports with reference to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

IEA’s Stated Policies Scenario says that the total volume of carbon dioxide emissions globally will stand at 33 274 Mt, with China accounting for 27.4 percent, followed by OECD with 23.3 percent, non-OECD Asia (excluding China) with 20.3 percent, non-OECD Europe and Eurasia 7.5 percent, Middle East 7.1 percent, Africa 5.4 percent, bunkers (Includes international aviation and international marine bunkers) with 5.3 percent and non-OECD Americas with 3.7 percent.

Sustainable Development Scenario expects global carbon dioxide emissions at 14 704 Mt placing OECD first with 21.8 percent, followed by China with 20.9 percent, non-OECD Asia (excluding China) with 20.7 percent, non-OECD Europe and Eurasia with 9.6 percent, Africa with 7.5 percent, bunkers with 6.6 percent and non-OECD Americas 4.2 percent.

As primary energy demand dropped nearly 4 percent in 2020, global energy-related CO2 emissions fell by 5.8 percent according to the latest statistical data, the largest annual percentage decline since World War II. In absolute terms, the decline in emissions of almost 2 000 million tonnes of CO2 is without precedent in human history – broadly speaking, this is the equivalent of removing all of the European Union’s emissions from the global total.
