SOCAR talks on works for LNG expansion

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.14

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

In June 2021, SOCAR Trading submitted its updated liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure and supply proposal to the national electricity company of the Ivory Coast, which is the result of several years of research and analysis on optimal technical and commercial solutions for the client, Vitaliy Baylarbayov, Deputy Vice-President of SOCAR for Investments and Marketing said, Trend reports.

“While SOCAR Trading is confident that its proposal offers the most competitively priced supply, we understand possibilities of some new domestic gas discoveries are putting the whole process under question. On Sri Lanka, our development efforts are progressing through relevant approval processes albeit with certain slowdown related to the effects of new COVID resurgence in the Indian Subcontinent,” he told ICIS.

SOCAR buys and sells LNG over a very wide geography, including the Mediterranean basin, Asia and other regions. LNG is purchased from third parties and forms part of the company’s trade with third parties and buyers. This product is not exported from Azerbaijan due to the lack of direct sea access of Azerbaijan to the world ocean.

SOCAR Trading is currently involved in LNG-to-Power projects in Malta. The company has also sent several batches of LNG to Pakistan.
