Azerbaijan increases gas exports

Azerbaijan exported over 13.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from January through August 2021, Trend reports via the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan.

This indicator increased by 32 percent, or 4.2 billion tons, compared to the same period of 2020.

In value terms, the export of Azerbaijani gas in the specified period exceeded $2.3 billion, which is 38 percent or $647.5 million more than in 2020.

Turkey’s share in the total Azerbaijani gas exports amounted to 7.3 billion cubic meters or 55.2 percent. Italy’s share amounted to 3 billion cubic meters, or 23 percent, Georgia’s share – to 2.1 billion cubic meters or 16.3 percent. Hungary, Bulgaria, and Iran accounted for 5.5 percent or 727.4 million cubic meters.

In value terms, Turkey accounted for 46 percent, or $1 billion, Italy – 35.5 percent, or $836.2 million, Georgia – 11.4 percent, or $268.5 million, and Hungary, Bulgaria, and Iran – 7.1 percent, or $155.8 million.

Azerbaijani foreign trade turnover from January through August 2021 exceeded $20.2 billion, which is 18.3 percent or $3.7 billion more than over the same period of 2020.

In the structure of foreign trade turnover, exports accounted for $12.9 billion, which is 30.9 percent, or $ 3 billion more than from January through August 2020. The share of exports in foreign trade turnover was 63.7 percent.

Azerbaijani imports from January through August 2021 amounted to about $7.3 billion, an increase of 9.8 percent, or $659 million, compared to the same period of 2020. The share of imports in foreign trade turnover was 36.2 percent.

The foreign trade turnover balance, remaining positive, increased by 42.8 percent, or $2.3 billion, year-on-year – to $5.5 billion.
