Uzbek Ministry of Energy explains rise in gasoline prices

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 6

By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy named the reasons for the rise in prices for RON -91, RON -92 and RON -95 gasoline, Trend reports citing the Ministry.

According to the ministry, the rise in prices happened mainly because these types of gasoline are produced from imported raw materials, so their prices depend on fluctuations in the world market.

On the other hand, prices for RON -80 gasoline are being controlled by interventions in the domestic market, said the ministry.

Considering the rising oil prices, the Ministry of Energy noted that 1 liter of RON-80 gasoline, which accounts for 78 percent of all gasoline Uzbekistan produces, is sold at a price of $0.54-$0.57.

Meanwhile, according to the ministry's calculations, the price of RON-91 and RON -95 gasoline reaches $0.83 per liter at $80 per barrel of oil.

The ministry recalled that since 2017, the sale of gasoline in Uzbekistan has been transferred to exchange trading, so prices are formed according to market principles.

As a result, the practice of setting prices for gasoline has been stopped, a healthy competitive environment has been formed, and the supply of quality products at prices acceptable to consumers has been established, the ministry said.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, since the beginning of 2021, gasoline prices in Uzbekistan have grown by an average of 28.2 percent.
