Azerbaijan plans to fully provide liberated territories with electricity by end-2021

Azerbaijan plans to fully provide the liberated territories with electricity by the end of 2021, said Azerbaijan’s energy minister Parviz Shahbazov in an article published in Respublika newspaper, Trend reports.

“From the very beginning, special attention was paid to the construction of energy infrastructure and ensuring energy security as an important part of the process of rebuilding the liberated territories. Energy supply issues are handled by one of the working groups of the Coordination Headquarters and its Interdepartmental Center, created in November 2020. The main goal is to fully provide the entire region with electricity by the end of this year. In accordance with this goal, three of the four reconstructed 20 MW HPPs in Lachin, Kalbajar and Sugovushan have already been commissioned as part of the restoration of generating capacities,” the article says.

In addition to the Gulebird power plant with a capacity of 8 MW, Sugovushan-1 and Sugovushan-2 with a total capacity of 7.8 MW, as well as the reconstructed small hydropower plant Kalbajar-1 with a capacity of 4.4 MW, research is also underway with the relevant structures on rehabilitation 33 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of up to 140 MW, which are in emergency condition, said the minister.
