Iran’s SPGC launches final turbo compressor in 12th refinery at South Pars gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 7

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The final, 6th turbo compressor of the 12th gas refinery of the Iran’s South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) has been launched, an official of the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) Ali Asghar Sadeghi said, Trend reports citing POGC’s official website.

The 12th refinery of the South Pars Gas Company processes gas extracted from 22nd, 23rd and 24th phases of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar).

According to Sadeghi, so far, 5 turbo compressors have been operating at the 12th refinery. With the launch of the 6th turbo compressor, the products at this refinery become ready for export.

The official added that the South Pars gas field’s 22nd, 23rd and 24th phases produce 56 million cubic meters of gas daily. Meanwhile, the 12th refinery produces gas condensate, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ethane, sulfur, as well as 50 million cubic meters of sweet gas daily from rich gas.

As reported, Iran's South Pars Gas Company's 12th refinery can produce 75 million barrels of gas condensate, 400 tons of sulfur per day, as well as 1.5 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and 1 million tons of ethane per year.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate. Iran has so far spent $90 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

The phases of the South Pars gas field are located in an area of 3.7 km. Iran has extracted more than 1.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and 2.2 billion barrels of gas condensate worth $335 billion by the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2021).
