Oil production up at Azerbaijan’s Bahar-Gum Deniz

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan.21

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Crude oil and condensate production by Bahar Energy Operating Limited from Azerbaijan’s Bahar-Gum Deniz oil and gas block stood at 621 barrels per day as of November 30, 2021, compared to 480 bbl/d in October 2021, Trend reports with reference to the company.

Nevertheless, the production figure was well below the budgeted volume of 805 bbl/d.

Non-compensatory and compensatory crude oil and condensate production stood at 559 bbl/d and 62 bbl/d.

Greenfields Petroleum Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary Bahar Energy Limited (BEL), owns an 80 percent interest in the Exploration, Rehabilitation, Development and Production Sharing Agreement (the ERDPSA) with SOCAR and its affiliate SOCAR Oil Affiliate (SOA) in respect of the offshore block known as Bahar Gum Deniz (the Bahar Project), which consist of a Contract Rehabilitation Area (CRA) including the Bahar Gas Field and the Gum Deniz Oil Field and an Exploration Area (CEA).

The Bahar Gas Field is located in shallow water 40 km southeast of Baku, offshore in the South Caspian Basin. The Bahar Gas Field is located in the South Apsheron Offshore Zone of the South Caspian Basin, and is found along the Fatmai-Gum Adasi anticlinal trend which includes the Gum Deniz and Shakh Deniz structures. The Bahar structure is a north-south trending faulted anticline that is approximately 9.5 kilometres in length and 3.5 kilometres in width. The field was discovered in 1968 and production began in 1969 with cumulative production year end 2017 of 4.54 Tcf and 84 MMbbls condensate.

The Gum Deniz Oil Field is located south of the Absheron peninsula, 21 km south of Baku, between Gum Island and the Bahar Gas Field. The Gum Deniz Oil Field extends from onshore Gum Island, which is 2.5 km from the mainland to the south in the Caspian Sea. The Gum Deniz Oil Field is found along the Fatmai–Gum Adasi anticlinal trend which includes the Bahar and Shakh Deniz structures. Oil in the Gum Deniz Oil Field is trapped in a north-south trending structure that is approximately 16 kilometres in length and 3 kilometres in width. The Gum Deniz Oil Field is structurally up-dip from the Bahar Gas Field. The fields are separated by a structural saddle. The Gum Deniz Oil Field has been on production since 1955.
