BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan.24
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
It is planned to complete the construction of Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydroelectric power plants in 2.5 years, Azerbaijan’s energy ministry told Trend.
“The dams of those HPPs are already in place and we’re planning to build the power stations, which is expected to be completed in 2.5 years. The total capacity of the HPPs is 280 megawatts and once the plants are commissioned, the generated electricity will be equally shared by Azerbaijan and Iran on 50-50 basis,” the ministry said.
Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydroelectric power plants will be built in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from the Armenian occupation. The capacity of the HPPs is 200 megawatts and 80 megawatts, respectively.
The implementation of these projects only will enable Azerbaijan to produce 358 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, improve the irrigation of existing 252,000 hectares of lands and ensure the irrigation of additional 12,000 hectares.
The joint-technical commission held a meeting on January 18-19 to discuss the progress in the implementation of Khudaferin and Giz Galasi project. The meeting participants reviewed the completed work and the future plans related to these projects.
The sides agreed to speed up the construction work of the power plants and hydro junctions, which play a crucial role in covering the electricity demand and water demand of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.
