Iran makes breakthrough in polyethylene production using local catalyst

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 9

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran's Mahabad Petrochemical Company will produce polyethylene as a pilot for the first time by using a local catalyst in the next month (February 20 through March 20, 2021), Executive Director of the company Ahmad Farahmand said, Trend reports citing Iran’s National Petrochemical Company’s website.

The director emphasized that the catalyst was produced by the Iranian Petrochemical Research and Technology Company and the Pooya Pazhoohesh Arvid Pazh Company.

He added that the catalyst is expected to increase polyethylene production.

Farahmand noted that the Pooya Pazhoohesh Arvid Pazh Company plans to produce a catalyst for the production of methanol and ethylene glycol. After the production of the mentioned catalyst domestically, Iran will no longer need to import it from China and Japan.

According to the director, the Mahabad Petrochemical Company produced 380,000 tons of polyethylene and butane from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) to February 9. The production is 28 percent more than planned.
