By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

SOCAR Carbamide has increased its exports by more than four times year-on-year, the plants director Khayal Jafarov said, Trend reports with reference to Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

“We significantly increased our exports. In 2020, we exported about 70,000 tons, while in 2021 this figure rose to 323,000 tons. As such, we increased our exports by more than four times year-on-year. We export carbamide both to Black Sea ports, namely, Georgia, Poti and Batumi ports and to Turkey in containers via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway,” he said.

Jafarov noted that currently, Azerbaijan’s carbamide imports from abroad are at low levels.

“The carbamide plant covers 90 percent of the demand for nitrogen fertilizers in Azerbaijan. It allowed to stop currency outflow from the country,” he added.

SOCAR Carbamide, a resident of Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, has a crucial role to play in the development of agriculture and non-oil exports.

The plant commissioned in January 2019, plays an important role in reducing the dependence on nitrogen fertilizer imports and meeting the demand of local farmers.
