By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

SOCAR Carbamide has tripled its production in 2021, as compared to 2020, the plants director Khayal Jafarov said, Trend reports with reference to Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

“The plant was commissioned in 2019, when we were conducting full-scale control and adjustment works. Normally, during these works we faced some problems. After resolving those problems in the first four months of 2021, the plant began to operate at full capacity. Currently we work at 94 percent of capacity. We tripled production in 2021 as compared to 2020. We produced around 120,000 tons of carbamide in 2020, while in 2021, this figure rose to 355,000 tons,” he said.

Jafarov pointed out that the first contribution of the plant was the creation of new jobs.

“Currently, the plant employs 470-480 people and plans are to increase their number to 610-620. Over the past years we couldn’t reach this goal due to the COVID-19 pandemic and hope that this year we will have full personnel. Non-oil exports grew by over 40 percent in 2021 as compared to 2020, which was achieved also thanks to the carbamide plant,” he added.

SOCAR Carbamide, a resident of Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, has a crucial role to play in the development of agriculture and non-oil exports.

The plant commissioned in January 2019, plays an important role in reducing the dependence on nitrogen fertilizer imports and meeting the demand of local farmers.
