The National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) will place an order with a local company to build a new oil tanker, Executive Director of the company, Hossein Shiva said, Trend reports citing NITC’s official website.
“In this regard, a contract will be signed soon with the Iranian Shipbuilding & Offshore Industries Complex to build the mentioned tanker,” the director said.
Shiva also added that under the order, the capacity of the oil tanker will be 113,000 tons. This tanker will be the first domestic-made oil tanker to run on two fuels (LNG and low-sulfur fuel oil).
According to him, the tanker will be built in accordance with the standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
"It is hoped that the construction and timely delivery of this tanker will allow local companies to receive more orders to build new local ships," he said.
The director emphasized that in total, 24 tankers of the National Iranian Tanker Company have been repaired domestically so far.
