BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. The power generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants reached 70,154 megawatt-hours with the connection of Chabahar TPP in the Sistan and Baluchestan (south-eastern Iran) to the country's electricity network at the end of last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Trend reports citing Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company’s website.

In total, 7 thermal power units were launched in Iran in the second half of last Iranian year (September 23, 2021 through March 20, 2022). As a result, 1,154 megawatt-hours of electricity were added to the country's electricity generation capacity.

There are currently 589 power units operating at 129 thermal power plants in Iran. About 67.5 percent of the TPPs owned by the private sector.

Iran ranks 9th in the world in terms of electricity generation capacity of thermal power plants.
