BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. The 5,000th tanker with oil transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline was shipped this week at the Turkish Ceyhan’s marine transport terminal in the Turkish province of Adana.

Moreover, Azerbaijan's quota for oil production in May 2022 determined. The decision adopted at the 27th meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries members and allies (OPEC+) provides for increasing daily oil production in Azerbaijan by further 7,000 barrels in May 2022. Daily oil output is planned to reach 688,000 barrels whilst the reduction commitment is provided at the level of 30,000 barrels.

Azerbaijan’s SOCAR AGS drilling and well services management company has signed a partnership agreement with the Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) for complex oil well drilling and overhaul. The agreement provides for cooperation in the implementation of drilling projects in Iraq for national and international oil companies.

This week was also quite rich with news on Azerbaijan’s gas market. Azerigas said that Azerbaijan plans to reconstruct Khankendi gas supply system. At present, the Azerigas Production Union has conducted some repairs on the gas pipeline going to Khankendi. The city is fully provided with natural gas. The gas infrastructure in all these territories is expected to be completely rebuilt by the Azerbaijani state for meeting modern requirements. It's also scheduled to reconstruct the gas supply system of Khankendi. Azerbaijani citizens will be able to use the infrastructure to be established in these territories.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) may offer extra 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year via the Prisma platform. TAP consortium is ready to make the pipes work at full capacity, arriving as soon as possible at full capacity with 10 billion cubic meters per year. In addition, with the availability of gas from Shah Deniz, up to approximately two billion cubic meters of extra capacity could be available through trading activities on the Prisma platform. This would allow to boost the supplies to 12 billion cubic meters without having to set up the infrastructure.

Renewable energy was also in focus during this week. Azerbaijan’s energy minister Parviz Shahbazov said that the country eyes export of "green" electricity to Europe. Construction of new cable transmission lines along the bottom of the Black Sea will allow Azerbaijan to export the produced "green" electricity to Europe. Along with "green" electricity, it will be possible to consider the issue of exporting hydrogen to Europe.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said it will provide a $23.2 million loan to Masdar Azerbaijan Energy company for the construction and operation of the Garadagh solar power plant [in Azerbaijan’s Alat settlement] with an installed capacity of 230 MW.

Another important statement came from Azerbaijan’s Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov. He said that it is planned to build a new power plant in Azerbaijan’s Yashma village based on modern technologies and innovations in the next five years. Work is underway in Azerbaijan to replace old power plants left over from the Soviet period with new high-tech ones. The Mingachevir power plant is one of the largest in the country with an installed capacity of 2,400 megawatts. It is planned to minimize its use and increase the number of plants that consume less gas. Saved gas can either be used on the local market or sent for export.
