BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 5. Iran could export 200 billion cubic meters of gas a year to Europe, if a number of opportunities are created, Former CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hamid Reza Araghi told ISNA, Trend reports.

According to Araghi, first of all, work should be done to reduce gas consumption in Iran, because currently Iran consumes a lot of gas. This prevents the increase in exports. At the same time, there is a need to carry out development work on renewable energy.

The ex-director added the development of Iran's gas fields and storage facilities should also be in the spotlight. In the current situation, there is a need to attract $150 billion in Iran's gas industry.

"Currently, Iran's gas potential cannot be an alternative to Russia’s. If the mentioned opportunities are created, as well as gas consumption in the country is reduced, Iran can export gas to Europe," he said.

At present, Iran's gas extraction capacity is about 1 billion cubic meters per day.
