BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. The 42-inch Rasht-Chelavand gas pipeline in Gilan Province (northern Iran), will play a decisive role in the gas exchange between Iran and Azerbaijan, Manager of the Dispatching Department of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad Reza Joulaei said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
A 150 km long gas pipeline is being laid from Iran's Rasht to the Chelavand village of Iran's Astara. The pipeline is being laid in two parts.
Joulaei noted that the first part of the gas pipeline will soon be ready for use.
The official added that the gas pipeline will also help supply gas to Iran’s Ardabil and surrounding provinces.
“At the same time, the equipment will be renewed in the Chelevand gas pressure boosting facility, new equipment for measuring of gas volume will be installed, fundamental changes will be made in the turbines,” he said.
The Chelevand gas pressure boosting facility is located 15 kilometers from the Astara-Rasht highway and 30 kilometers from the border of Iran and Azerbaijan. The facility has 4 turbo-compressors and can transport 20 million cubic meters of gas daily.
