BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. Iran currently exports 600-700 megawatt hours of electricity per day and imports the same amount of electricity per day, the Spokesman of the Iranian Energy Ministry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi told Trend.

According to Rajabi Mashhadi, Iran has electricity exchange with all countries that have land borders with it.

Currently, Iran imports electricity from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan and exports its electricity to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

The spokesman added that the main priority of Iranian Energy Ministry is to fully provide the country with electricity and, if possible, to export the rest. Except for the summer season (electricity consumption in Iran reaches peak level in summer), the country's electricity export is stable.

“Compared to the last Iranian year, there is an increase in Iran’s electricity import, and decrease in export, for the current Iranian year,” he said.

The total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) is currently over 86,000 megawatt-hours.
