BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. Iran produced a total of 231 billion cubic meters of rich gas from the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Managing Director of Iran's Pars Oil & Gas Company (POGC) Mohammad Meshkinfam said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
“The South Pars gas field provides 70 percent of the country's gas consumption. The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has plans to increase production from this field. With the implementation of various plans to maintain and increase production from South Pars gas field gas production is expected to double,” the director noted.
According to Meshkinfam, last winter, Iran's Oil Ministry predicted a daily shortage of 200 million cubic meters in gas consumption. For this purpose, the Pars Oil and Gas Company has taken a number of steps to increase production from the South Pars gas field. As a result, 705 million cubic meters of gas were produced daily from the South Pars gas field in last winter.
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
