BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.3. The ICGB, operator of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), will announce a tender for automation, Teodora Georgieva, executive director of ICGB, said in an exclusive interview with Trend.

“I want to emphasize that IGB is the only fully automated gas pipeline in Bulgaria. Naturally, we have a maintenance program and anticipate the corresponding costs for this. We are planning to announce a tender for the conclusion of contracts with experienced companies to maintain the mechanics, automation (SCADA) and easement of the gas pipeline on the territories of Bulgaria and Greece,” she said.

Georgieva pointed out that it is expedient for these companies to have excellent specialists in Bulgaria and Greece in order to maintain the interconnector in a qualitative and economically justified manner.

IGB connects Bulgaria with the Southern Gas Corridor and will enable secure supplies from a variety of sources to several countries in Southeast and Central Europe, including Moldova and Ukraine.

The pipeline is set to transport 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas per year to Bulgaria. Its capacity is 3 billion cubic meters with the possibility of expanding to 5 billion cubic meters per year.
