BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 12. Gas consumption in Iran increased and exceeded 607 million cubic meters on December 11, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Chegeni said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

As reported, in recent days, daily gas consumption in Iran was between 530-550 million cubic meters.

The deputy minister stressed that 72 percent of total gas consumption for the past day was accounted for residential buildings and commercial facilities.

“If gas consumption in residential buildings and commercial facilities continues to increase, a number of restrictions will be applied on gas supplying to petrochemical and large industrial facilities, and these facilities will have to use liquid fuel such as diesel, etc.,” Chegeni noted.

Overall, the gas consumption in Iran amounted to 109 billion cubic meters within the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).

Of this, 39.3 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities, 26.9 billion cubic meters - by Iran's large industrial facilities (petrochemical plants, steel plants and other plants), and 43.4 billion cubic meters - by Iran’s thermal power plants.

Iran's gas production is currently around 1 billion cubic meters per day. The South Pars gas field accounts for 75 percent of the country's gas production, other gas fields for 20 percent, and oil fields for 5 percent.
