BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 5. The electricity generation of thermal power plants in Hormozgan Province (southern Iran), increased by 7 percent, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through January 20, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, CEO of Hormozgan Power Generation Company Reza Mehrani said, Trend reports citing Iran's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company’s website.

The CEO noted that in total, 20 million megawatt-hours of electricity were generated by the province’s thermal power plants in 10 months.

“Of the mentioned volume, approximately 18 million megawatt-hours were supplied into the country’s electricity network,” he said.

The main thermal power plants generating electricity in the province were Bandar Abbas, Isin, Hengam, Persian Gulf, Hormoz, Pasargad, Ghadeer, and Qeshm TPPs.

“In 10 months, four thermal power plants played key role in the province’s electricity generation. So, 28 percent of total electricity generated in the province accounted for Persian Gulf TPP, 25 percent for Bandar Abbas TPP, 18 percent for Isin TPP, and 13 percent for Hengam TPP,” Mehrani added.

According to the official, of the overall electricity generated by the province’s TPPs for 10 months, 25 percent accounted for steam units, and 75 percent for gas units.

Commenting on increase in power generation of the province’s thermal power plants, Mehrani stressed that the largest increase among the mentioned TPPs was recorded in Hengam, Hormoz, Pasargad TPPs respectively.

“Thus, Hengam TPP generated 2.39 million megawatt-hours of electricity in 10 months, which is an increase of 87 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year,” the official said.

At the same time, Hormoz TPP generated 852,000 megawatt-hours of electricity for the reporting period, which is an increase of 81 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year, he said.

Mehrani also noted that Pasargad TPP generated 339,000 megawatt-hours of electricity during 10 months. This is an increase of 44 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.
