BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 26. The electricity generation of Iran’s thermal power plants increased by 3 percent for the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Nasser Eskanadari said, Trend reports referring to Iranian Energy Ministry.

The deputy director noted that approximately 333 million megawatt-hours of electricity were generated by the country's thermal power plants in the last Iranian year.

Eskandari also added that this is considered the record figure for the annual power generation of Iran’s TPPs.

“Of the mentioned volume, approximately 181 million megawatt-hours were generated by combined cycle units, 73 million megawatt-hours – by steam units, and 69 million megawatt-hours – by gas units,” he said.

At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.

There are currently 615 power units in 134 TPPs operating in the country. In total, power generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants is 74,015 megawatt-hours.

So, the power generation capacity of combined cycle units is 35,503 megawatt-hours, gas units is 22,683 megawatt-hours, and steam units is 15,829 megawatt-hours.
