BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. Iran will put new biogas power plant into use in Tehran Province in the north of the country, on April 18, 2023, Trend reports referring Iranian Energy Ministry.

According to the report, the electricity generation capacity of the mentioned biogas power plant is 2.4 megawatt-hours.

With the operation of this power plant, it will be possible to fully cover a settlement of 20,000 residents. On average, the power plant is expected to produce 15 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

Also, the operation of the mentioned biogas power plant will allow to prevent the release of 75,000 tons of greenhouse gas into the environment annually.

Iran continues to work on decreasing the release of greenhouse gases into environment.

In general, Iran’s renewable energy power plants generated a total of 121 million kilowatt-hours of electricity for the 12th month of the last Iranian year (February 20 through March 20, 2023). As a result of the operation of the mentioned power plants for the 12th month, 33 million cubic meters of gas and 27 million liters of water were saved, as well as the release of 68,000 tons of greenhouse gases (CO2) into the environment gas was prevented by the operation of these power plants in Iran.

Currently, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
