Oil, gas sector accounts for over 70% of FDI in Azerbaijan's economy in 2022 - CBA

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Azerbaijan attracted $6.3 billion of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the economy in 2022, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the country's FDI in the economy of other countries amounted to $0.2 billion.

The share of the oil and gas sector in the structure of FDI in the economy of Azerbaijan made up 71 percent.

The reduction in net financial liabilities in the balance of payments of Azerbaijan in 2022 on FDI in the oil and gas sector was formed due to the difference between investments attracted to the oil and gas sector (almost $4.4 billion) and repatriation (return of funds from other states to local accounts) of $11.16 million to this sector.

The negative balance of FDI amounted to $6.1 billion.

The top five countries in terms of FDI in the economy of Azerbaijan last year were the UK - $1.75 billion (up by 10.9 percent), Türkiye - $1.18 billion (up by 60.3 percent), Cyprus - $825.7 million (2.6 times more), Russia - $517.96 million (10.5 times more), and Iran - $359.8 million (up by 34 percent).
