BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. Total proven recoverable and expected hydrocarbons (in oil equivalent) in Azerbaijan stand at 8.43 billion tons, an energy market source told Trend.

“Proven recoverable and expected oil-condensate reserves in Azerbaijan stand at 2.54 billion tons, while gas reserves are estimated at 6.25 billion tons,” said the source.

Azerbaijan’s major hydrocarbon reserves are concentrated offshore. The oil reserves on the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block account for more than one billion tons. The recoverable reserves exceed 500 million tons of oil.

This is while the proven reserves of Shah Deniz field are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas and 240 million tons of condensate.

Moreover, Azerbaijan has such important hydrocarbon fields as Umid-Babak. The reserves of Babak perspective structure may amount to 400 billion cubic meters of gas and 80 million tons of condensate, according to preliminary data.

As for perspective structures, the forecasted reserves of the Shafag-Asiman block stand at 500 billion cubic meters of gas and 65 million tons of condensate. Other perspective structures include the Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara (ADUA), Karabagh field.

Moreover, on Block D230, the interpretation of the seismic data is currently ongoing. If the results from the interpretation of the seismic survey are positive, bp will consider further exploration activities.

Absheron field will produce 1.5 billion cubic meters at the first stage.
