BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), alongside with the supplies from Algeria, North Europe, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from sea, has helped Italy to reduce Russian gas imports by 88 percent, according to the April data from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, Trend reports.

Moreover, thanks to TAP, in just over a year, Italy has built a gas supply system capable of guaranteeing greater independence.

TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.

TAP facilitates gas supplies to South Eastern European countries through existing and prospective interconnectors.

Azerbaijan exported 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe from January through May 2023.
