Power generation of Iran’s Hormozgan Province TPPs surges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6. Power generation of thermal power plants in Iran’s Hormozgan Province in the south of country increased by 3 percent, during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through June 21, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, CEO of Hormozgan Power Generation Company Reza Mehrani said, Trend reports.

“In total, 5 million megawatts of electricity were generated by the province’s thermal power plants in 3 months. Of the mentioned volume, 53 percent was generated by state-owned power plants, while 47 percent by power plants belonging to private sector,” Mehrani added.

In other words, more than 2.63 million megawatts of electricity were generated by the state-owned power plants - Bandar Abbas, Hengam and Isin, and 2.35 million megawatts by the private sector’s TPPs, the CEO noted.

Overall, Iran’s thermal power plants generated more than 80 million megawatts of electricity within the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through June 21, 2023), which means 81 percent of total power generation in the country.

There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.

The main thermal power plants in Iran’s Hormozgan Province are Bandar Abbas, Isin, Hengam, Persian Gulf, Hormoz, Pasargad, Ghadeer, and Qeshm TPPs.
