BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Bushehr Province (southern Iran) produced more than 1.6 million megawatts of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023), Director of the plant Reza Banazadeh told reporters, Trend reports.

“In addition to the electricity production, overhaul was carried out at Bushehr NPP within the mentioned period (from March 21 through August 1). The Bushehr NPP is under maintenance for 2 months a year, and as a result, it can produce electricity for the remaining 10 months,” he said.

The director also noted that as a result of the electricity production of the Bushehr NPP for the reporting period, more than 90 million barrels of crude oil were saved, as well as 50 million tons of polluting gases were prevented from spreading into the environment.

According to Banazadeh, since being commissioned in 2011, the plant produced a total of 60 million megawatts of electricity to date.

The director added that 2 new units are currently being built near the 1st unit of Bushehr NPP. With the launch of these 2 units, the electricity generation of Bushehr NPP will increase to 3,100 megawatt-hours.

The 1st unit of the Bushehr NPP was launched in 2011 by the Russian Atomic Company (ROSATOM). In 2013, the development of the unit was handed over by the ROSATOM to an Iranian company. The unit has been generating 1,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year since 2013.
