BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Iran's gas production from the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field, which is considered the world's largest gas field, will increase to 730 million cubic meters in the winter season (December 22, 2023 through March 19, 2024), CEO of Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Mohammad Hossein Motajalli said, Trend reports.
Motajalli noted that production will increase by 30 million cubic meters per day by performing some tasks at various phases of the South Pars gas field.
Reportedly, Iran produces an average of 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from the South Pars gas field.
The CEO added that several wells in the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field will start producing gas, adding 15 million cubic meters per day to the output.
He also said that production will also increase by 10 million cubic meters/day after restoring four wells in phase 13.
Moreover, a new pipeline from phase 16 to land will boost production by another 8–10 million cubic meters/day, according to Motajjali.
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. Reportedly, Iran's gas production capacity is more than 1 billion cubic meters. Iran exports only a small portion of the gas produced in the country, about six percent.
