BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 28. In September 2023, SOCAR Türkiye's STAR refinery witnessed a 11.6 percent year-on-year decrease in petroleum coke production, Trend reports.
As per the estimates of Türkiye’s Energy Markets Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the refinery generated 63,874 tons of petroleum coke in September of this year, down from 72,269 tons produced during the same period in 2022.
SOCAR Türkiye intends to process more than 12 million tons of oil at the STAR refinery in 2023, using crude oil sourced from countries in the Black Sea region, Africa, and other nations in the production of petrochemical products.
The STAR refinery, inaugurated in October 2018, possesses the capability to process 214 thousand barrels of crude oil per day.
SOCAR Türkiye plans to temporarily halt operations at the STAR refinery for maintenance in 2024, marking the first shutdown since its commissioning. Planned repairs will be conducted initially, with the aim of subsequently extending the intervals between refinery shutdowns for maintenance to five years, resulting in potential savings of up to $40 million.
