BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 25. Iran has started construction of solar power plants that can produce 4,000 megawatt hours of electricity, Trend reports on December 25, Trend reports.
A video-conference ceremony was held in Tehran to mark the start of the construction, attended by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian, and other officials.
The solar power plants are expected to be operational by the summer of next year (July 21, 2024). Tehran will host 32 percent of these plants, while Fars, Sistan, and Baluchistan provinces will have 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively.
Iran has 381 sites (places) for solar power plants that can generate 11,000 megawatt hours of electricity.
Currently, Iran’s renewable and alternative energy power plants have a capacity of 1,119 hours of electricity production.
In the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 to September 22, 2023), Iran’s renewable energy power plants produced 234 million kilowatts of electricity.
