BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 11. Azerbaijan forecasts growth in gas exports in 2024, planning to increase supplies to Türkiye and Europe, a source in the government told Trend.
"This year, Azerbaijan has outlined gas exports at the level of 24.5 bcm. At the end of 2023, Azerbaijan exported a total of 23.8 bcm," the source noted.
According to the source, at least 12 bcm of gas can be supplied to Europe in 2024, and if it is possible (taking into account the debit of wells at "Shah Deniz"), even more.
"We anticipate receiving such gas resources from the fields, which, in particular, will allow us to boost the volume of sales of Azerbaijani gas in Italy, the most advantageous market for us in terms of prices," the source added.
Meanwhile, 11.8 bcm of gas was transported to the EU via the Southern Gas Corridor in 2023, with almost 10 bcm transported to Italy.
Türkiye received 9.5 bcm from Azerbaijan in 2023 (of which 5.6 bcm through TANAP), and Georgia received 2.5 bcm.
Overall, Azerbaijan exported 23.8 bcm of gas in 2023, which is 5.3 percent more than in 2022.
Transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor commenced on December 31, 2020. The gas from the Caspian Sea region is transported to European countries through Georgia and Türkiye.
