BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 30. The STAR oil refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye has ramped up naphtha production, Trend reports.
In November of 2023, the plant churned out 135,837 tons of naphtha, compared to 126,663 tons during the same period in 2022, according to data from the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK). This marks a 7.2 percent increase in naphtha production at the refinery.
The STAR refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with $3.3 billion of the project's expenses financed through loans.
Featuring an annual refining capacity of about 10 million tons, the plant can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
SOCAR Türkiye is set to temporarily suspend STAR refinery operations for maintenance in 2024, marking the first shutdown since its commissioning. Planned repairs aim to extend the interval between shutdowns to five years, potentially saving up to $40 million.
