BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 14. Gas production from the Caspian Shah Deniz field peaked at 26 billion cubic meters per year in 2023, and bp will try to maintain this level for several years, the company's Vice President for the Caspian region, Communications and External Affairs Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli told an Azerbaijani TV channel, Trend reports.

“In 2023, 26 billion cubic meters of gas (72 million cubic meters per day) and four million tons of condensate were produced at the Shah Deniz field. Now this is actually the maximum limit of possibilities, that is, we have reached the peak of gas resource production. In the following years we'll try to maintain this level,” Aslanbeyli noted.

According to him, work is currently underway to interpret data from drilling the SDX-8 exploration well on the northeastern flank of the Shah Deniz field.

“Based on the results of the interpretation, it will be possible to determine the volumes of gas in deep-seated formations. Now our experts and experts from SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) are studying different scenarios in order to come to a common denominator about the volumes from this flank and plans for the sale of these resources,” added the vice president.

Overall, Azerbaijan produced 48.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2023.
