BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Romania hopes to establish the structure of a project company by the end of 2024 to implement a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project with Azerbaijan, Trend reports via the Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian-Ioan Burduja's social media account.
"Romania is ready to finance the LNG terminal in Constanta. These investments will strengthen Romania's position as an energy hub. The terminal can provide a new alternative to Russian gas," Burduja said on social media following negotiations in Baku on April 1.
According to him, Romgaz and SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) have conducted a technical and economic feasibility study of the project and are satisfied with its results.
To note, LNG can be produced at the SOCAR terminal in the Georgian port of Kulevi and transported in liquefied form to the Romanian port of Constanta (where re-gasification is planned) by ships.
