BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14. A total of 11.2 billion kWh of electricity was produced in Azerbaijan from January through May 2024, down 5.5 percent year on year, Trend reports.
Data from Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov's X publication reveals that the electricity production from the local thermal power plants (TPPs) during the reporting period reached a staggering 9.68 billion kWh.
Meanwhile, 714.4 million kWh of electricity production accounted for renewable energy sources (green energy).
"The share of green energy in electricity generation reached 14 percent," the publication said.
During five months this year, Azerbaijan exported 426.8 million kWh and imported 80.9 million kWh.
To note, in 2023, Azerbaijan generated a whopping 29.27 billion kWh of electricity. A remarkable 3.25 billion kWh of this power was sent abroad, while 211.8 million kWh was brought in from other sources.
