BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. The Azerbaijani-German SOCAR-Uniper JV plans to commission a steam generator unit at the Ethylene-Polyethylene Plant in Azerbaijan's Sumgayit city as part of COP29 activities, Head of Uniper's Azerbaijan Office Rashad Huseynli told reporters, Trend reports.
"This is a major SOCAR-Uniper project aimed at improving energy efficiency for the Azerkimya Production Union (SOCAR). The project is currently undergoing final testing, and an official launch ceremony for the electricity and steam generation unit may take place during COP29," Huseynli pointed out.
He explained that the aim of building the unit is to boost the efficiency and production capacity of the steam generation complex, which keeps the plant's lights on.
This project is a big fish in the pond when it comes to boosting the energy efficiency of industrial plants across the nation.
To note, SOCAR and Uniper established the SOCAR-Uniper joint venture in 2016 to implement the steam generator unit construction project at the Ethylene-Polyethylene plant. The project aims to increase the design capacity of the steam generation complex from 32 MW to 65 MW. This was achieved by installing an additional turbogenerator and modernizing the existing technological system.
