BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. Eni has finalized a charter agreement with Avenir LNG Limited for the LNG bunker vessel Avenir Aspiration, Trend reports via the company.

This vessel will provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) to cargo and passenger ships, which are increasingly adopting LNG as a fuel due to its lower environmental impact compared to traditional fuels and compliance with the latest emission standards.

The agreement marks a significant expansion of Eni’s operations within the small-scale LNG bunkering market in the Mediterranean, highlighting the company's commitment to sustainability and the decarbonization of the maritime sector by 2050.

Aligned with Eni's strategy to market its growing LNG portfolio, the agreement aims to promote more environmentally friendly fuels for shipping and transportation, contributing to the broader transition to low-carbon energy. By leveraging Eni’s established presence in the LNG sector and Enilive’s expertise in fuel bunkering, the company seeks to further reduce the maritime industry's carbon footprint by incorporating LNG into its bunkering offerings, alongside biofuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

The multi-year charter is set to commence with the delivery of the vessel in 2025.
