BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. Greece's expenditure on Azerbaijani gas imports reached €57.4 million in July 2024, up from €55.7 million in the same month last year, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, told Trend.
This marks a year-on-year increase of over 3 percent.
However, for the January-July 2024 period, Greece's total spending on natural gas from Azerbaijan amounted to €362 million, a sharp 37.5 percent decrease compared to €579.5 million during the same period in 2023.
In terms of import volumes, Greece received 162.8 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan in July 2024, a decrease of 8.64 percent compared to 178.2 million cubic meters in July 2023. Over the first seven months of 2024, Greece imported 1.12 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan, down 8.3 percent from the 1.2 billion cubic meters recorded in the same period last year.
Azerbaijan began supplying gas to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor on December 31, 2020. In July 2022, Azerbaijan and the European Union reached an agreement to double the corridor's capacity from 10 billion cubic meters to 20 billion cubic meters by 2027.
