SOCAR FACES DIFFICUTLIES ON ABSHERON PROSPECT

Oil&Gas Materials 27 June 2005 13:30 (UTC +04:00)

The unavailability of a production platform or any other hydrotechnical facility makes impossible to start the development of the Western Absheron offshore prospective structure, according to the State oil company (SOCAR).

Work is currently underway in the area, with SOCAR providing the necessary funding for the project. A SOCAR spokesman told TREND that the drilling of several exploration wells [on Absheron] have enabled the company to test certain inflow of hydrocarbon reserves. “In the future we plan to position a platform there, but this also requires substantial amount of money,” the spokesman added.

SOCAR is currently drilling two exploration wells, #169 and #58, on the structure, with the use of Khazar-4 rig. The well #169, with the planned drilling depth, is expected to produce the inflow of 5 to 6 tons pe5r day of crude oil. The other well, #58, is to be drilled to the planned depth of 820 meter
