CONFERENCE ON MASS MEDIA’S IMPACT ON INVESTMENTS HELD IN BAKU

The Barmek Azerbaijan, the operator of the energy distribution network of Baku and Sumgayit, held a conference on mass media’s impact on investments within the project on social and economic events on Friday, Trend reports.

Zahid Mammadov, the Doctor of Economy, delivered a paper at the conference. He spoke about positive and negative impacts of mass media on implementation of investment projects.

“The practice shows that a negative article on function of any company or bank can reduce the cost of its stock at the stock exchange. Mass media can form negative or positive opinion about company or different persons,” he noted.

The expert underlined that published reports can hinder investments. “For instance, the Barmek Azerbaijan came to an agreement with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development about receiving of $ 50 m credit. But negative reports published referring to the head of the Azerenerji JSC prevented the company from receiving the credit,” he noted.

Mammadov also mentioned necessity in the development of new ethic code, establishment of information base, ensuring of transparency and effectiveness of press-services.

Jahangir Mammadli, the chairman of the Broadcasting Council, said that there was the ethic code due to be observed by every journalist.
