Works on construction of the second and the fourth pumping stations of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline on the Turkish territory have been temporarily suspended, president of the Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) and the BTC General Director Natik Aliyev said on 9 November, Trend reports.

According to him, the first and the third pumping stations of the BTC pipeline will enable to pump the oil up to the terminal in Ceyhan. "We try to win the time. The works on the project have been accelerated lately. We want to bring the oil to Ceyhan till the year-end. The first pumping station has been commissioned in Turkey and it is fully ready to accept the oil “, Aliyev said.

The SOCAR president admitted, there are some difficulties in the project. "Today the independent experts allege, the shipment of the first tanker may be delayed till February 2006. It is quite natural, if we take into account, that filling of the Azerbaijani and Georgian parts of the oil pipeline started on 25 May and lasted during 5-6 months. We cannot fill the pipeline for a short period of time and testing and managerial works take up much time. These works are necessary, as we may face such problems which can delay us for longer time”, he said.
